4/8/16- We’ve got our hands on one of the 2017 Arctic Cat Thundercats to begin development on all the go-fast goodies for the new 9000 C-TEC4 platform. Since the 998 Turbo is an all-new engine, there are a lot of unknowns going in, but we plan to pursue the same type of components that made big power in the 1100 Turbos- ECU Remapping, Full Stainless Steel Exhausts, Aluminum Charge Tubes, High Flow Intakes, Intercooler Upgrades, and our Hypershift clutch components to put the power to the ground. Stay tuned for further announcements on power numbers and parts pricing and availability!

 

Update 6/28/16-

Coming late Summer to early Fall, Speedwerx will be releasing mapping software for the 2017 Arctic Cat 9000 and Yamaha Sidewinder models with the new 998 Turbo engine. This will allow anyone who wants to re-flash and or build their own custom mapping for these machines to do so. Features will be very similar to mapping released for the 1100 Turbo models in the past. We plan to offer Single Map and Multi-Map options- we will have more detailed info on this soon. The main goal is to offer a system similar to what the automotive industry offers, where anyone can map or tune at any time and do it anywhere.

 

This new software will allow you to:

-          Send your box in to get re-flashed

-          Have a map built by someone else

-          Do your own mapping and tuning with the Tuning Kit

-          Offer Speedwerx mapping and tuning to your customers in-house

-          Offer your own maps and tuning in your store or in your customers store

 

These are all options with the new software:

-          Each box will require a license @ $449.95 retail. Once this license is purchased (online), it can be re-flashed by anyone who has a map built for this machine using this software.

-          Maps $ TBD

-          Mapping Software and Cable Kit $ TBD (Tuning Kit)

-          Speedwerx will also have a line of our own mapping and tuning available just like we have in the past for the 1100 Turbo models.

-          Speedwerx is looking to set-up Dealers and Distributors , anyone and everyone who is interested in re-flashing there machine, or building maps for their customers.

 

Additional New Products Planned for the 9000 Turbo:

-          Lightweight Muffler / Downpipe (these parts are combined on this machine) Testing will determine how many muffler options we will have available.

-          Stainless Steel Head Pipe with CNC Cut 3-into-1 Merge Collector

-          Aluminum Charge Tubes for better flow and heat dissipation

-          Intercooler Upgrade for lower charge temps / increased air flow / more consistent HP over time

-          Cold Air Intake plumbed direct to the turbo for lower under hood temps / lower turbo temps / more consistent HP over time

-          Machined / Adjustable Weights for the TEAM Primary Clutch (2 Profiles)

-          H5 Alloy Clutch Springs for the TEAM Primary and Secondary Clutches (29 total)

-          Custom Machined Helixes for the TEAM BOSS Secondary

-          True 4th Wheel Kit (tri-hub elimination kit)

-          Cold Air Body Panel Vent Kit

-          Speed Track Upgrade Kit (est. 5+ mph top speed)

Update 7/27/16- Dyno Testing Begins!

Update 9/22/15- Stock Baseline and Speedwerx Muffler Dyno Test Comparison

Our new TIG welded 304 Stainless Steel muffler is going to be a must have for the new 998 Turbo models. After extensive testing, we are seeing a solid 15hp gain over stock with no mapping or fuel changes, with a nice 8lb weight loss as well. We took special care in the design to make sure stock boost levels were maintained with this muffler- our testing showed other configurations made more power, but the boost level had increased so we deemed them unusable as the gain in boost was adding to the overall power output. Our plan is to continue to dyno test different versions of this muffler once our mapping and software becomes available in the next few weeks, as we want to verify performance at increased power levels before finalizing the exact internal specifications and going into production. Even though this is our L2 (Light and Loud) version, the sound level is reasonably low. Much like the similarly designed mufflers we have for the Z1 and 1100 Turbo models, it is louder than stock but the turbo itself does a lot to help quiet it down to a tolerable level for everyday trail riding.

We have also been testing our Aluminum Charge Tubes, High Flow Cold Air Intake, and Intercooler Upgrade Kit at low boost levels. These items are not really showing any big gains on the dyno, but we know from the previous models that keeping air to the turbo as cool as possible and keeping the charge temps low results in much better performance in the field.

10/6/16-

There's been much discussion on power levels between the demo sleds from last winter and the regular production sleds arriving at dealers now, so Billy Howard from our eastern distributor Howards Inc took his XF 9000 over to DynoTech Research in New York to verify the stock power output of a production model sled. This is the same sled we showed you last week that he's been running on the asphalt 1/4 mile, so it's had some run time. As expected, it put up some very impressive numbers, 205hp @8800rpm- right in line with the demo sleds that came in at 204 and 211 on the same dyno. Just for kicks, they threw on one of our prototype Speedwerx stainless steel mufflers that Billy has been testing and it pulled 230hp with no other changes! This particular muffler was one of the versions we mentioned in one of our previous posts- we dynoed it here on our Thundercat and found it made great power, but ruled it out for production due to an increase in boost over the stock level. Our dyno consistently puts out numbers that are more conservative than DynoTech's, but if you compare the relative gains on our dyno with a muffler that maintains the stock boost levels (as we previously reported- 195hp stock to 210hp with muffler, approx. 8% gain), Billy's 205hp machine should be right around 221hp at stock boost levels with only a muffler change. There's much more to be tested on this new 998 engine package, but this is definitely good news for those wondering how it stacks up against the tried and true 1100 Turbo!

Update 12/2 - Speedwerx L2 Series Lightweight Muffler - Stage 2

After extensive testing, we are seeing an awesome 23hp gain over stock, with a nice 8lb weight loss as well! This muffler bumps up the boost slightly and leans out the air-fuel ratio, so ECU remapping is required to ensure long term reliability. Our plan is to continue to dyno test different versions of this muffler once our mapping and software becomes available in the next few weeks, as we want to verify performance at increased power levels before finalizing the exact internal specifications and going into production. Even though this is our L2 (Light and Loud) version, the sound level is reasonably low. Much like the similarly designed mufflers we have for the Z1 and 1100 Turbo models, it is louder than stock but the turbo itself does a lot to help quiet it down to a tolerable level for everyday trail riding.

For a nice boost in power without needing an ECU remap, check out our Stage 1 muffler that makes 15hp over stock with no other changes required!
